Faster speeds available to almost 40% of area customers starting June 3
AUSTIN, TX, May 21, 2014 – More than 100,000 Time Warner Cable (TWC) customers in the greater Austin area will have access to Internet speeds up to 300 Megabits per second (Mbps) beginning June 3. Announced in February, all six of the Internet plans offered by TWC will receive an increase in speeds at no additional cost, with speeds up to 6x faster than before. The roll out will continue over the next few months and by the end of this fall, all TWC Internet customers in the greater Austin area will have access to the new speeds. Time Warner Cable will be the only provider to offer ultrafast Internet speeds to all of its residential customers in the market.
As an example, TWC customers who subscribe to the Standard Internet plan, formerly up to 15 Mbps, will now receive up to 50 Mbps, and customers who subscribe to the Ultimate plan, formerly up to 100 Mbps, will receive up to 300 Mbps, at no extra charge. The faster speeds are the result of a nearly $60 million investment by TWC in its Austin area network.
“These significant speed increases will allow all our Internet customers in the greater Austin area to enjoy TWC Internet better,” said Kathy Brabson, area vice president of operations for Time Warner Cable in Central Texas. “Time Warner Cable offers a variety of Internet speed plans and prices to meet the varying needs of our customers. So whether they are simply surfing the Web, streaming video or downloading music and photos, these faster Internet speeds will enhance their experience with Time Warner Cable.”
Some customers will need a DOCSIS 3.0 modem to enjoy the full benefits of the speed increases, and they will be contacted by Time Warner Cable about their choices for receiving a new device. Customers who lease their modem from TWC and need a more advanced modem to receive the faster speeds can swap their modem for no additional charge. Communication to the first group of customers about the new speeds and details about equipment is being delivered to homes this week. Customers can also visit www.twc.com/speedincrease for more information about how to receive a new modem.
