As Veterans Day approaches, Texas Cable Association member cable operators are showing their support for Texas’ former military members and thanking them – and their families – for their service to our state and nation. TCA members are proud to be airing a public service announcement (PSA) to promote Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) statewide veterans hiring fairs, as well as participating in cable programmer History’s efforts to connect veterans with local schools.
“The Texas Cable Association and Texas cable operators are honored to be asked to help our state’s military veterans get connected to the career guidance and job assistance they deserve,” said Texas Cable Association President Dale Laine. “We salute the proud men and women of Texas for their service to our state and nation.”
The PSA, now on some cable systems throughout Texas, promotes the Texas Workforce Commission’s (TWC) third annual Hiring Red, White & You! Statewide Hiring Fair on Nov. 13. The hiring fairs are a partnership between TWC, its 28 local workforce development boards and the Texas Veterans Commission.
Appearing in the PSA are Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Dr. Red Duke, a military veteran, trauma surgeon and professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston’s Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center. The PSA can be seen here: http://www.txcable.com/2014/10/psa-hiring-red-white-you-nov-13-2014/.
Information on specific hiring fair locations can be found here: http://www.twc.state.tx.us/svcs/vetsvcs/hiring-red-white-you.html#jobLocations.
“The Hiring, Red, White and You! Statewide Hiring Fair is a wonderful opportunity for Texas employers to hire our highly skilled veterans,” said TWC Chairman Andres Alcantar. “We thank Texas Cable Association for its support of this statewide hiring event through the airing of the public service announcement.”
This is the second PSA Texas cable operators have run this year in support of veterans. Earlier, some cable systems aired a PSA, at the request of Gov. Rick Perry, designed to raise awareness of state resources available to help Texas veterans navigate the Veterans Administration (VA) health care system.
Also in November, Texas cable operators, with support from TCA, are helping veterans tell their stories to Texas schoolchildren as part of cable programmer History’s Take a Veteran to School educational initiative. TCA members have participated in each of the program’s eight years. In 2014, TCA cable members will help host events in 15 schools, including elementary, middle and high schools.
