As Veterans Day nears, the Texas Cable Association and its member cable operators are taking part in several initiatives to recognize, thank and support our state’s military veterans.
TCA members are airing a public service announcement (PSA) to promote Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) statewide veterans hiring fairs, as well as participating in cable programmer History’s efforts to connect veterans with local schools. In addition, TCA is backing a new national cable initiative to hire and retain military veterans within the cable industry.
“From helping veterans find jobs after their military service, to introducing them to our younger generation in Texas public schools, the Texas cable industry is proud to participate in programs that both assist veterans and give them the recognition they so richly deserve,” said Texas Cable Association President Dale Laine.
A PSA airing on some cable systems throughout Texas publicizes the Texas Workforce Commission’s fourth annual Hiring Red, White & You! statewide hiring fairs in 27 cities throughout Texas on Nov. 12. Featured in the PSAs are U.S. Army veteran and University of Texas at Austin football alumni Nate Boyer and country music artist Aaron Watson. The PSAs can be viewed at: http://www.txcable.com/category/psa/.
Information on specific hiring fair locations can be found here: http://www.twc.state.tx.us/hiring-red-white-you.
Also in November, Texas cable operators, with support from TCA, are helping veterans tell their stories to Texas schoolchildren as part of cable programmer History’s Take a Veteran to School educational initiative. TCA members have participated in each of the program’s nine years. In 2015, TCA cable members are planning to help host events across Texas, including elementary, middle and high schools.

A newly unveiled national cable industry initiative, Mission Media, is a multi-faceted initiative to further the cable industry’s efforts to encourage recent military veterans, reservists and members of the National Guard to join cable’s ranks. The program is guided by the Cable and Telecommunications Human Resources Association, and TCA member companies are participating.
