TIME WARNER CABLE TEXAS RECOGNIZED WITH THREE NATIONAL BEACON AWARDS
FOR EXCELLENCE IN COMMUNICATIONS
San Antonio, TX (Sept. 21, 2010) – Time Warner Cable’s Texas Communications team brought home three Association of Cable Communicators (ACC) Beacon Awards at the concluding event of ACC’s annual conference in New York City Sept. 16, 2010.
Time Warner Cable Texas won Beacon awards in the following categories:
The South Texas communications team was honored in the Technology Product category for the promotion of the Road Runner Mobile 4G Launch in San Antonio. In January, San Antonio celebrated the launch of Road Runner Mobile, Time Warner Cable’s wireless product, at the Life in the 4G Fast Lane event at Sunset Station. The public event featured appearances by “The Fastest Woman in the World” IndyCar star Danica Patrick and special guest and Time Warner Cable customer, NBA star Manu Ginobili. With more than 1,500 potential wireless customers in attendance, the event demonstrated how effective public relations can create awareness for a product and event.
In the Education category, the Central Texas communications team was recognized for the launch of the Connect a Million Minds initiative. In the fall of 2009, Time Warner Cable launched Connect a Million Minds, a five-year, $100 million commitment to engage youth in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Nonprofit and education partners joined the company at launch events throughout Texas to communicate the Connect a Million Minds message, while also connecting to the local flavor and community in each market. The launch events were successful in raising awareness of STEM and the Connect a Million Minds curriculum throughout Texas by securing positive media coverage about the initiative.
In the Programming Publicity category, the North Texas communications team was recognized for the “Vote with Your Remote On Demand Film Festival” in El Paso. In order to drive interest and increase viewership of El Paso’s On Demand channel, the El Paso division sponsored an innovative competition featuring films by local amateur and student filmmakers. Local digital customers were encouraged to visit the El Paso On Demand channel and vote for their favorite film by viewing them On Demand. The viewership goal was exceeded and the community rallied to support local filmmakers.
“It is an honor that our hard work is being recognized by such a prestigious national group,” said Jon Gary Herrera, regional vice president of communications for Time Warner Cable Texas. “The awards symbolize not only the great work our team does on large-scale launch events and campaigns, but also on a day-to-day basis.”
Time Warner Cable’s Texas Communications team is positioned throughout the state to proactively communicate the company’s innovative products, services and community initiatives to their more than 2 million customers in Texas.
The Beacon Awards honor excellence in cable communications and public affairs. ACC presented 46 Beacon Awards representing work by Multiple System Operators, cable systems, programming networks, and cable associations in categories such as community relations, social media communications and public service announcements.
