CAPITOL ORNAMENT PSA AIRING ON TEXAS CABLE SYSTEMS
TCA members donate air time to aid Capitol preservation program
Texas Cable Association (TCA) member companies are doing their part to support Texas Capitol preservation and education programs by once again donating air time to televise a public service announcement (PSA) to encourage sales of the annual Capitol Ornament. The PSA – featuring Texan singer-songwriters Robert Earl Keen and Lyle Lovett – promoting the 2010 ornament will be seen through December on the Texas systems of Charter, Comcast, Suddenlink and Time Warner Cable.
“The holidays mark a time of reflection and joy as Texas families across the state give thanks for their blessings," said Julie Straus, wife of Speaker of the House Joe Straus, who is spearheading the Capitol Ornament campaign. “Joe and I are delighted to continue the beloved tradition of unveiling the 2010 Capitol Christmas Ornament, which provides funds toward the preservation of our majestic Capitol. This year's ornament is a beautiful keepsake of the history of the Texas State Capitol and a reminder of the best that Texas has to offer."
“Our state’s beautiful Capitol building is a true treasure,” said TCA Board Chairman John Owen, president, business services, Time Warner Cable West Region. “Texas Cable Association members are honored to be able to use our resources to help preserve it so that it can continue to be used and appreciated by future generations.”
The cable companies’ willingness to participate annually in the Capitol Ornament project is an example of the commitment to service and community practiced by cable operators in Texas for more than 50 years.
In 2009, TCA members Charter, Comcast, Suddenlink and Time Warner Cable contributed an estimated $1.3 million in air time for the Capitol Ornament PSAs during the holiday season.
The 2010 PSA can be viewed on TCA’s website, www.txcable.com.
This is the 15th year that the spouse of the Texas Speaker of the House of Representatives and the State Preservation Board have created and sold a collectible Capitol Ornament. To date, more than $5 million has been generated through ornament sales to support ongoing Capitol conservation and maintenance programs, including public education about the building, its contents, and the historic Capitol grounds. TCA (www.txcable.com) has been the primary trade organization for cable operators in Texas since 1960. Follow TCA’s activities on Facebook and Twitter: www.facebook.com/texascable and www.twitter.com/texascable.
