C‑SPAN & SPECTRUM VISIT STUDENTCAM DOCUMENTARY WINNERS IN MCKINNEY & BEAUMONT, TX
C-SPAN & SPECTRUM Honored National Winners from Imagine International Academy of North Texas and Ozen High School in Beaumont
C‑SPAN and Spectrum visited Imagine International Academy of North Texas on May 2 and Ozen High School on May 3 to honor local winners for C‑SPAN’s annual student video documentary competition,StudentCam. During the visit, C‑SPAN Representatives presented a StudentCam certificate of merit to all 13 winning students during ceremonies in front of classmates, teachers and family members to recognize their achievement in the national competition.
StudentCam encourages middle and high school students to think critically about issues that affect our communities and nation. This year, students were asked to create a 5-7 minute video documentary about the topic, “Your Message to Washington: What is the most urgent issue for the new president and Congress to address in 2017?” In response, C‑SPAN received 2,903 video submissions from over 5,600 students in 46 states and Washington, D.C. One hundred fifty student and 53 teacher prizes were awarded, totaling $100,000 in prize money. Visit www.studentcam.org to watch all the winning videos.

Master Sergeant Melinda Maldonado is expected to join students and faculty members in honoring hometown heroes at a Take a Veteran to School Day program at Lee Middle School, Friday, Nov. 11. The Take a Veteran to School Day project is part of a national initiative by the History Channel and Altice USA, which provides Suddenlink services in San Angelo. A formal program, including a performance by the Goodfellow Air Force Base Drill Unit, will be presented at an assembly in the boy’s gym.
Charter Communications’ Spectrum Voice customers now have the ability to stop unsolicited telemarketing and robocalls with Nomorobo, a proven third-party call-blocking application.
Nomorobo automatically blocks unwanted phone calls from telemarketers and robocallers using a list of known unwanted phone numbers including those on the “Do Not Call” Registry. The call rings both on the home line and the Nomorobo platform simultaneously. If Nomorobo recognizes the call is from an unwanted number, it will be blocked.
Spectrum, HISTORY and the students of Club Hill Elementary School will show appreciation for local veterans with a “Take a Veteran to School Day” event featuring appearances from Spectrum employees who have served in the United States military.
Spectrum employees Mark Aziere, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, and Nick Rosario, a military police officer who served in the U.S. Army, will be on hand to share their personal experiences with students as they discuss the important purpose of Veterans Day.
