ESPN, Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks have reached an agreement for carriage of the SEC Network when the channel launches on August 14, 2014. The network will be available to fans and followers of the Southeastern Conference in all Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks markets ahead of the first SEC 2014-15 college football season game, Texas A&M vs. South Carolina, on August 28 at 6 p.m. ET. With the addition of Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks, the SEC Network will be available to approximately 60 million households nationwide.

The SEC Network will air more than 1,000 live events in its first year, including at least 45 exclusive SEC football games, more than 100 men’s basketball games, 60 women’s basketball games, 75 baseball games, 50 softball games and events across all of the SEC’s 21 sports. The network will be an all-access pass to nationally competitive events, news and information, expert analysis, classic games and in-depth features on the most storied conference in college athletics.

The Southeastern Conference and ESPN have signed a 20-year agreement through 2034 to create and operate a multiplatform network which will launch August 14, 2014. The new network and its accompanying digital platform will air SEC content 24/7 including more than 1,000 events in its first year. Comcast announced the launch of Xfinity WiFi in the Houston area today. For no additional charge, Xfinity Internet customers can access more than 50,000 Houston area WiFi hotspots – with more coming online daily – as well as thousands in other areas of the country in places where customers spend time working, shopping, dining and more.
It’s a not just a win for Jonathon Caldwell. More than 100,000 Time Warner Cable (TWC) customers in the greater Austin area will have access to Internet speeds up to 300 Megabits per second (Mbps) beginning June 3. Announced in February, all six of the Internet plans offered by TWC will receive an increase in speeds at no additional cost, with speeds up to 6x faster than before. The roll out will continue over the next few months and by the end of this fall, all TWC Internet customers in the greater Austin area will have access to the new speeds. Time Warner Cable will be the only provider to offer ultrafast Internet speeds to all of its residential customers in the market.
Suddenlink Communications is the latest cable operator to report positive basic video subscriber growth in the first quarter, adding 2,400 customers in the period. Suddenlink, which has about 1.4 million subscribers in about 10 states, is the latest cable operator to report basic video gains – late last month Comcast reported a gain of 24,000 video customers in the first quarter and Charter Communications said it added about 18,000 basic video subscribers in the period.
Time Warner Cable News Austin (TWC News Austin) today announced the launch of its Time Warner Cable “Fave” Scholar Athlete Contest, which takes place now through May 11, 2014 on www.Austin.TWCNews.com. The contest is an extension of Time Warner Cable’s “Scholar Athlete” program that took place in March. The program recognized selected high school student athletes with $1,000 scholarships and other honors.
