Cable Connects Texans
Cutting Edge Technologies
The Texas cable industry’s decade-long blaze of advancement in video,
data and voice services is changing the way Texans live — delivering more
choice, convenience and control than ever before. This commitment to broadband
deployment has empowered Texas consumers by offering them flexible options
to serve their entertainment, information and communication needs. TCA member
companies have spent over $3 billion of private capitol to upgrade their
systems from one-way analog to a digital powerhouse, — more than $1,200 per
customer.
Cable's network investments of private risk capital have been made
with no government incentives, subsidies or guarantees.
Cable’s investments give Texas consumers 21st century technologies
such as:
Digital Television: Upgraded digital television systems let consumers
watch what they want, when they want it. Interactive services include: Digital
Video Recorders, High-Definition Television, Video on Demand, Interactive
Program Guides and Content Management.
High-Speed Internet Access: "Surfing the net" using
cable's superior network allows faster navigation and download speeds that
are 50 to 100 times faster than standard telephone technologies. And the "always-on" feature
— there is no need to "dial up" — saves time and does not interfere
with normal telephone or video usage.
Local and Long-Distance Telephone Service: The cable industry
has expanded its competitive offerings to include business and residential
telephone services. In addition to the deployment of traditional telephone
service, many companies offer phone service using Voice Over Internet Protocol
(VoIP) technology.
