The Texas Cable Association (TCA) on Monday testified in the House Ways and Means Committee in support of a bill that would give 5.5 million Texas cable and other video subscribers a break on their video taxes – taxes that satellite customers don’t pay.

Texas cable operators have organized special events in several communities throughout Texas as part HISTORY’s Take a Veteran to School Day annual outreach initiative in honor of Veterans Day. Several cable providers also are holding internal events to recognize their employee veterans through HISTORY’s Thank a Veteran at Work program.

Members of the Texas Cable Association (TCA) Board of Directors have elected the 2012-2013 Executive Committee and Board of Directors for one-year terms starting July 1. TCA has been the primary trade organization for cable operators in Texas since 1960.

An almost seven-year legal battle over the state’s law specifying how video franchises are issued came to an end Monday with a U.S. Supreme Court ruling and a final ruling issued by U.S. District Judge Lee Yeakel agreeing with the Texas Cable Association (TCA) that the state law is unconstitutional because it violates the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

The Texas Cable Association (TCA) issued the following statement in connection with the signing into law by Gov. Rick Perry of Senate Bill 1087, which provides a more level playing field for video service providers by erasing some competitive advantages provided by prior legislation for new entrants to the video market. The law goes into effect Sept. 1.
