Take a Veteran to School: In recognition of Veterans Day, Texas cable operators are honoring the state’s military veterans and helping them share their stories with Texas schoolchildren as part of cable programmer HISTORY’s annual Take a Veteran to School initiative. Learn more.

Hire a Veteran: Helping military veterans transition to civilian life by connecting them with jobs and training is a mission of the cable industry, which participates in several veteran-hiring initiatives. On the state level, the Texas Cable Association and its members are airing public service announcements (PSAs) to promote Texas Workforce Commission statewide hiring fairs on Nov. 10. Learn more.

Just a few highlights from our member companies:

Altice USA/Suddenlink: Altice USA recently announced Suddenlink internet service with an up to 1 Gigabit per second download speed is now available in its Texas service areas of Plainview and Floydada. The company announced it increased certain other Suddenlink residential internet speeds at no additional cost to customers. The unveiling was the next step in Operation GigaSpeed, the company-wide plan announced in August 2014. Learn more.

Charter/Spectrum: Spectrum will bring at least 200 new jobs to San Antonio with the grand opening of its new Customer Operations Call Center in the city’s Westover Hills area. Spectrum now occupies more than 50,000 square feet of space, which will enable it to ramp up hiring, adding bilingual sales staff to address growing demand for Spectrum products and services. Returning former Time Warner Cable call center jobs to the United States from overseas is part of Spectrum’s long-term strategy to improve the customer experience. Learn more.
