Rodriguez Elementary School teams up with Time Warner Cable and HISTORY Channel to connect with those who served in the armed forces
Wednesday, October 23 2013— This November, Dr. Rodriguez Elementary School is partnering with Time Warner Cable and HISTORY Channel to honor those who have served in the armed forces.
Dr. Rodriguez Elementary will be participating in Take a Veteran to School Day on Nov. 11. On this day, teachers and students will invite Veterans of all backgrounds to participate in campus events and share their stories. The day is sponsored by HISTORY Channel in efforts to link Veterans with students nationwide.
The morning will begin at 9:00 a.m. with an assembly honoring Veterans at the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District’s Performing Arts Center, located at 3217 W. Wilson Rd. After the event, a reception will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the Dr. Rodriguez Elementary Information Literacy Center located at 8401 W. Wilson Road..
All Veterans are invited to attend the assembly and reception. Rodriguez students will also be encouraged to personally invite and bring a Veteran to school on this day.
Featured assembly speakers include retired Marine Colonel and current Superintendent of Marine Military Academy Glenn Hill and Lieutenant Colonel Chris Amrhein from US Transportation Command currently stationed at Scott Air Force base in Illinois. Also highlighted will be America’s VetDogs Program (service dogs for veterans).
Assembly music will be provide by the Lt. George Gutierrez Middle School Band.
Take a Veteran to School Day, now in its 7th year, is HISTORY Channel’s premiere public affairs outreach program, connecting veterans from all walks of life with students in schools and communities nationwide. In 2013, over 5,000 schools in all 50 states are expected to participate.
