TIME WARNER CABLE EXPANDS AVAILABILITY OF ESSENTIALS INTERNET IN TEXAS GIVING CUSTOMERS MORE WAYS TO SAVE

Posted on: 06-28-2012 Posted in: Press Releases - Members

SAN ANTONIO, June 27, 2012 – Time Warner Cable is now offering customers in Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Waco, Temple, Killeen, Kerrville and the Golden Triangle, three new tiers of Internet service, called Essentials, designed to give them more choice and help them save money on their broadband bills. Essentials was launched earlier in the year to the San Antonio, Laredo, Corpus Christi, the Rio Grande Valley and the Border Corridor markets.

“It’s clear that one-size-fits-all pricing is not working for many consumers, particularly in a challenging economy,” said Gordon Harp, Regional Vice President of Operations in Texas. “As we’ve done on our video product with our scaled-down TV Essentials service, we will now be offering an Internet service to meet the needs of consumers who want more price flexibility. Now, our customers can choose among tiers of Internet service based on how much bandwidth they use, or stay with one of our existing unlimited plans.”

Customers who purchase Lite Essentials, Basic Essentials or Standard Essentials will receive 5GB of data transmission and save $5 off their monthly broadband bills. A Usage Tracker will be available at https://myservices.timewarnercable.com/ so customers can gauge their monthly usage and choose a plan that’s right for their households. The unlimited Internet plans will still be available at the current flat monthly rate, and customers who take no action will remain in their current plans. All Lite, Basic and Standard Internet customers will be eligible for the Essentials plans. Essentials is not available to Turbo, Extreme and Wideband customers.

“We know high speed Internet has become a critical household service, and some customers need more price flexibility to keep it in their homes,” Harp said. “We believe the choice and flexibility of Essentials will enhance value for lighter users, help us retain existing customers in a competitive marketplace and attract new customers to our superior Internet experience.”

The Essentials plan features:

  • Up to 5GB of data transmission for a $5 discount from one’s current monthly bill
  • The ability to opt-in and opt-out of a tiered package at any time
  • A Usage Tracker that displays usage on a daily, monthly, weekly or even hourly basis, enabling customers to accurately gauge usage
  • 2 billing-cycle grace period to allow customers to adjust usage patterns; they will be notified of overages but won’t be charged for them
  • Overages will cost $1 per GB, not to exceed a maximum of $25 per billing cycle
