TEXANS ENJOYING GREATER ACCESS TO ADVANCED ENTERTAINMENT AND INTERNET TECHNOLOGIES

Cable companies continue to build on $2.2 billion private capital investment in Texas

Austin – Time Warner Cable’s roll out this week of advanced digital services in Archer City, a town of about 1,800 residents southwest of Wichita Falls, furthers the trend of Texas cable providers bringing technology to Texans in even the smallest towns without government handouts or special legislative favors.

The investment by Time Warner Cable lets customers in Archer City take advantage of the latest entertainment and information services available today, including hundreds of cable channels, Road Runner High Speed Online, digital cable, video on demand and high definition TV.

“Time Warner Cable and other Texas cable companies are on the leading edge of providing advanced technologies to Texans,” said Dale Laine, president and COO of the Texas Cable & Telecommunications Association (TCTA). “No other would-be competitor or industry matches the array of services cable provides. The cable industry is delivering the most advanced digital technology in a heavily competitive environment, solely through private investment capital, and without government incentives, subsidies or guarantees.”

The launch of advanced digital services in Archer City is the result of a nearly $600,000 investment in fiber optic digital technology that now connects Archer City to Time Warner Cable’s system located in Wichita Falls.

Cable providers in Texas in the last decade spent $2.2 billion to upgrade systems from one-way analog to two-way fiber optics.

“In a global economy, access to advanced technologies is essential to the competitiveness of Texas businesses,” Laine said. “The cable industry is proud of its record of delivering the latest innovations to consumers.”

TCTA (www.txcable.com) is the primary trade organization for cable operators in Texas.
