TEXAS CABLE OPERATOR HELPS EQUIP KIDS TO RETURN TO SCHOOL
Donation drive showcases cable contributions during TCA’s 50th anniversary

Recognizing that students can’t learn if they aren’t properly equipped, Time Warner Cable is hosting school supply drives in its service areas in August to make sure Texas kids in need have the tools necessary to develop critical math and science skills during the upcoming school year.

Supplies are being collected at a number of locations in Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, El Paso, San Antonio and the Rio Grande Valley. For more specifics on “Collect 2 Connect,” including drop off locations, visit http://www.pitchengine.com/free-release.php?id=76246.

The “Collect 2 Connect” event – by Time Warner Cable as part of its Connect a Million Minds initiative (www.connectamillionminds.com) – is just one example of cable’s innovation and commitment to cutting edge technology the Texas Cable Association is highlighting during its 50th anniversary year.

“The Texas Cable Association is proud of the role the cable industry has played in our state for the past 50 years to bring video and, more recently, high-speed Internet and telephone services to Texans,” said TCA Chairman John Owen, VP of Business Class for Time Warner Cable Texas. “But we are just as proud of the commitment of cable operators to make their communities a better place to live by supporting educational initiatives and community events. We look forward to serving Texas for the next 50 years and beyond.”

Through CAMM, Time Warner Cable nationally has pledged to provide $100 million of cash and in-kind resources toward a five-year philanthropic plan to address America’s continuing decline in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

“Our state’s future depends on fostering the development of these bright young minds, particularly in the critical areas of math, science and related fields,” said Sen. Florence Shapiro (R-Plano), chairman of the Senate Committee on Education. “I commend Time Warner Cable for recognizing the importance of these subjects and for gathering the supplies, including specialized items, students will need in order to succeed in the years to come.”

TCA (www.txcable.com) has been the primary trade organization for cable operators in Texas since 1960.
