Amarillo YMCA-Suddenlink Corporate Cup Events Start Today

AMARILLO, Texas (Aug. 5, 2013) — Running, volleyball, basketball, softball, Frisbee golf and a tug of war highlight the final, most visible phase of the Amarillo Family YMCA-Suddenlink Corporate Cup challenge in Amarillo Aug. 5-17.

Record numbers of more than 1,000 employees from 25 Amarillo businesses will compete in the finals of the fourth annual Corporate Cup health challenge.  Teams signed up were offered the opportunity to participate in a six-week Health Challenge at the YMCA, which will conclude Saturday, Aug. 17.  Participants received free passes to train and participate in food and nutritional challenges.

Corporate Cup action now moves to team sports competitions.  The friendly competitions begin with three-on-three basketball matches at the South YMCA, 4101 Hillside, at 7 p.m. tonight.  Slam dunk and 3-point contests will take place one hour prior to the team event. Winners for both the Health Challenge and the Corporate Cup events will be announced at a hot dog barbecue at 11 a.m., Aug. 17, at Thompson Park, 2401 Dumas Drive.

Keith, Cactus Feeders, Education Credit Union, Excel Energy, FirstBank Southwest, Happy State Bank, JC Penny, Kohl’s, Maxor Pharmacy, Owens Corning, Pacific Cheese, People’s Federal Credit Union, Randall County Sheriff’s Department, Suddenlink, Target, Tascosa Office Machines, Texas Tech Health Sciences Center, United Supermarkets and Wells Fargo.

Affiliated Foods won the 2012 Amarillo Family YMCA-Suddenlink Corporate Cup challenge.

Suddenlink is the presenting sponsor for the event.  Media sponsor is KVII News Channel 7.

The  Amarillo Family YMCA-Suddenlink Corporate Cup challenge is designed to offer a fun way for employers to promote healthy lifestyles for their employees, camaraderie and community interaction.
