First phase of ‘TWC MAXX’ complete and on schedule

Austin, Texas (October 9, 2014) –Time Warner Cable (TWC) has completed the rollout of faster Internet speeds to all its customers in the greater Austin area, with the fastest offering delivering download speeds up to 300 megabits per second.  Customers who subscribe to any of the six Internet plans offered by TWC in Austin have received an increase in speeds at no additional cost, with customers experiencing speeds up to six times faster, depending on their current plan.

The faster Internet speeds mark the completion of the first phase of “TWC Maxx” in Austin.  The speed upgrades were delivered to 100% of its Austin footprint, along with the communities of Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander, Lago Vista, Buda, Kyle, Elroy, Lakeway, Hutto, San Marcos, Elgin, Marble Falls, Burnet, Lockhart, Bastrop, Fredericksburg, Taylor, Smithville, Wimberley, and Liberty Hill.

Along with ultra-fast Internet speeds, TWC Maxx includes all-digital TV, a graphically rich programming guide and an expanded On Demand library with up to 75,000 hours of capacity — all backed by rock-solid reliability. A 100% digital lineup brings customers better picture and sound and frees up capacity in the network for additional channels, On Demand choices, new features and even faster Internet speeds in the future.

“This is a significant milestone as we move forward with the expansion of ‘TWC Maxx’ in Austin,” said Ike Wells, regional vice president of operations for Texas. “We know our customers want faster Internet speeds and enhanced services, and Maxx is our commitment to bring them faster speeds and more in the future.  The next few phases of Maxx are going to be exciting and we’re looking forward to introducing more ways TWC customers can enjoy our services better.”

TWC will also transform the TV experience in Austin by introducing the new Enhanced DVR, an advanced set-top box with one terabyte of storage, enough to hold 150 hours of high-definition (HD) programming. TWC customers will see their DVR storage increase two to six times more than their current DVR capabilities. Enhanced DVR also comprises six tuners that provide the ability to simultaneously record up to six different programs.

Along with the faster Internet speeds, October marks a year since the launch of the TWC WiFi® network in the greater Austin area.  The TWC WiFi network launched in Austin with 900 hotspots and today, 3,000 TWC WiFi hotspots are available in Austin to TWC customers, with more than 250,000 TWC WiFi and Cable WiFi® hotspots in cities across the U.S.  All TWC Internet customers with Standard Internet or above and all Business Service customers have access to hotspots that can be located by using the free TWC WiFi Finder app.  Time Warner Cable will continue to add hotspots in Austin and surrounding communities through 2014.

TWC’s Business Services customers also have access to the new faster speed plans. Time Warner Cable Business Services has also introduced speed plans of 100 x 10, 200 x 20 and 300 x 20 as new options in its portfolio.  These new options are now available to Business Services customers and complement the existing tiers of Internet services available for businesses. TWC Business Services also offers a symmetrical fiber-based Internet service that delivers speeds of up to 10 x 10 gigabits per second for business customers.
