Spectrum Housing Assist, Charter’s national philanthropic initiative to create safer and healthier homes, comes to West Dallas
More than 75 North Texas Spectrum employee volunteers will be in West Dallas on Saturday, June 24, to support Charter Communications, Inc.’s national philanthropic initiative, Spectrum Housing Assist, which focuses on safe and healthy homes and seeks to improve 25,000 homes by the year 2020.
Spectrum partners with Rebuilding Together to provide critical home repairs to homeowners in need. For this event, Spectrum and Rebuilding Together Greater Dallas will rebuild four homes in the diverse community of Bataan in West Dallas – one of the oldest and most well-known communities in the city with a rich Hispanic heritage.
Spectrum and Rebuilding Together will help homeowners Asencion and Isidra; Rosalio and Rosalie; Felipa and Sajuan; and Francisca. All are third- and fourth-generation Americans who have lived in their Bataan homes for more than 40 years. Chronic health issues prevent these homeowners from performing maintenance on their homes themselves, and the extensive age of the houses makes many repair projects too costly for the homeowners to bear.
Spectrum employee volunteers will provide interior and exterior repairs, including the installation of safety equipment and weatherization modifications, for these West Dallas families who have struggled due to personal circumstances and the ages of their homes.
Texas State Rep. Roberto Alonzo is scheduled to appear and present opening remarks to volunteers before their work day begins.
“I applaud Spectrum and Spectrum employees for dedicating their time and resources to making much-needed home repairs for these Dallas families,” Rep. Alonzo said. “The people of this West Dallas neighborhood have a proud history of contributing to the success of the City of Dallas, and it’s so rewarding to see our corporate partners investing in the community to ensure these families can live in safe and healthy homes.”
“At Spectrum, we know the importance of a safe and healthy home. Spectrum Housing Assist was created to improve the livelihoods of residents and offer opportunities for our employees to help strengthen the communities in which we live and work,” said Kirk Dale, Spectrum’s Area Vice President, Field Operations. “Our employees are here from various divisions across North Texas and are happy to join the talented Rebuilding Together team of skilled contractors and area volunteers to make a long-lasting impact in our community.”
Spectrum Housing Assist has been implemented nationally, across the company’s 41-state service area. The program’s website features inspirational stories of impact, homeowner resources, education and activities that will help people maintain safe and healthy homes. Since launching in late 2014, the program has helped improve more than 10,000 homes.
